Seven decades since partition, an overview might not be out of place of how this successor state of British India turned Islamic republic has divided itself, rehauled its moorings, and transmogrified, especially during the last forty years, into a rentier-client state. Considerable attention will be devoted in this disquisition to its largest, least populated and most impoverished province, Balochistan, whose namesake Sunni outlier also straddles Shia Iran.
